The new oral HIV screening test democratizes access to care

I'm Ready, a national HIV self-testing program from REACH Nexus at St. Michael's Hospital MAP Centre for Urban Health Soltuions, is enhancing its services by offering an oral HIV test in addition to increasing access to PrEP through Freddie and Felix.

For Ken Monteith, executive director of the Coalition of Quebec Community Organizations Fighting AIDS, the introduction of this new test is a major step forward.

"People often feel some embarrassment talking to their healthcare professionals; they may have fears about discrimination , says Ken Monteith.

"  It's really a way to have a test that isn't exposed to the possibility of judgment or rejection.  "
