The Positive Effect
The Positive Effect is a movement designed and driven by people living with HIV.
Our goal is simple but powerful: reduce stigma, dismantle barriers, and amplify the voices of those thriving with HIV. Through stories from people with lived experience, conversations, and peer-led initiatives, we work to change how HIV is understood and experienced in Canada and beyond.
At the heart of this movement is Pozcast.
A Toronto-based but globally focused podcast hosted by James Watson. Each episode features candid conversations with people living with HIV, exploring what it means to be “poz” today. From health and work to love and everyday life, guests share personal stories of resilience, courage, and joy. By celebrating the strength of the HIV community, Pozcast challenges outdated perceptions and shows that people with HIV are not just surviving— they are thriving. Visit pozcast here.
We believe stories can change minds.
The Positive Effect shares the lived experiences of people with HIV—fears, struggles, triumphs—to spark dialogue, shift perspectives, and humanize the realities of living with HIV. These stories are available to watch, listen, read, and share, helping to build empathy and understanding across communities. Read the stories here.
Our Positive Actions initiative encourages small, peer-led steps that break down stigma in local communities.
Whether through education, support, or creative projects, every action—no matter how small—can create ripple effects of change. By empowering people to take action, we are building a movement rooted in compassion, respect, and solidarity.
Together, The Positive Effect and Pozcast are more than programs— they are platforms for transformation, helping to ensure that the voices and lives of people with HIV are seen, heard, and celebrated.
